Clear acrylic has been used to make a variety of items for the home and commercial furniture market. Lucite is a brand name for acrylic resin, sold under a few different trade names like Plexiglas and Perspex. Clear furniture made from acrylic resin has been around since the late 30’s, yet after 80 years it’s still trendy and has never gone out of style. Lucite furniture and accessories are often associated with the Hollywood Glam era; it’s chic, light, and modern. What keeps Lucite fresh is the way it can transform a space. Its transparent nature is perfect for small spaces; it’s a good choice when wood and metal are not what you are looking for.
I particularly like Lucite and bronze. It has a glamorous feel and vintage look that’s classic and so chic!
Lucite is the perfect way to transform a space; it’s the added element of style. If you’re looking to infuse your traditional décor with modern elements consider Lucite.
Because the piece of furniture is clear, it has a much lighter feel. Accessories seem to be floating.
Acrylic pieces do come in a variety of prices; the higher the price tag the thicker, heavier, and much more luxurious compared to the less expensive pieces, and the difference is quite obvious.
During the 60’s Lucite was used extensively in furniture, jewelry and fashion accessories. Today Lucite is having a renaissance, both in new designs and vintage. My favorite piece of furniture is the bar cart making a comeback, here it is in Lucite, inspired by Mad Men.

The Louis Ghost Chair designed by Philip Stark is now 10, and I think a classic, I also love the leopard and clear acrylic chairs both are available at Kartel.
