Pantone’s Color of The Year 2014; Radiant Orchid

By now you must have heard the color of the year 2014, according to Pantone is Radiant Orchid. Described as “an enchanting harmony of fuchsia, purple and pink undertones” that “inspires confidence and emanates great joy, love and health.”
You might be thinking what does that mean to me? Well prepare yourself for what’s to come in the year ahead. You will be seeing this color in the home furniture and accessories markets such as a purple sofa, pink poufs, and fuchsia throws. We will also be see lots of Radiant Orchid in fashion; on the red carpet, as well as in cosmetics. It has already made a presence in the spring 2013 runway fashion shows, graphic design, and advertising. I like 2014’s color I think it’s bright, happy and very fresh.

Tips For Keeping New Year’s Goals On Track

January is a time of self reflection, a time when we set goals and resolutions for the New Year. Whether we like to admit it or not, we all make some kind of resolution the first couple of days of the year. By Valentine’s Day almost 90% of those resolutions have been forgotten! Here are some tips on keeping those resolutions and goals from going astray.

Make sure your goals are SMART; Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Realistic, Time bound. Keep your goals visible, don’t just write them down and file them away. I write mine down and place it in a frame on my desk so I and others can see them every day. This helps me to keep me accountable and when I share my goals with others they can hold me accountable as well.

You also need an action plan, this helps with reassuring yourself that you are moving forward and making progress. Write down the steps you need to take in order to achieve your goal. This step is very positive, since you can measure your progress and keep your focus forward. It also helps break down what can be an impossible task into bite size pieces. The more steps you have the easier it is to move forward.

But in order to get through some of the hard times we all need some encouragement.

Some inspiration….

A little positive thinking never hurt anyone……

When making your goals, be true to yourself and your abilities. Make sure they are realistic, and stick to these simple instructions; you will reach your goals.

Happy New Year!

Tools And Tips For Staying Organized At Home

Happy New Year! As soon as we ring in the New Year at midnight I start to think about all the ways I want to redecorate and reorganize our home. There’s no time to waste, on January 2nd all the Christmas decorations come down and are quickly stored away for next December; and I start the year off by reorganizing our storage shed. In the first few days of January I quickly go through the main rooms of the house; once the tree is out of the living room I thoroughly clean the room, rearrange all the furniture and send out the furniture pieces that need to be repaired or reupholstered. I also go through all the coffee table books, throw pillows, and accessories; and start making a pile for the Goodwill. In the dining room the carpet is sent out to be cleaned, the chandelier is polished, and the dining chairs get repaired or reupholstered after all the holiday partying. Than the real fun begins; I start reorganizing the storage areas, kitchen cabinets, and closets. Throughout the year I collect DIY organizing tips and suggestions and try as many of them as I can to keep my stuff organized. Some of the organizing ideas work well and I start recommending them to friends and family, and some are not so great.
Keeping your life organized is a daily task, it’s hard and time consuming at the beginning but once you are use to it and make it into a habit than life gets much easier and less stressful. It does require help and participation from all the family members.
One of the tips I discovered this year that was a tremendous help is “no personal stuff in the common rooms”; so in the living, dining, kitchen and family rooms no member of the family including myself is allowed to leave their personal belongings like, iPod, toys, laptops, shoes, mail etc., this keeps down on the clutter.

Tip number two: I have always been told is to label everything, this year I will including all the plugs on the extension strips.

Tip number three: Use large paper clips for organizing all the cords for your gadgets

Tip number 4: Recycle toilette paper rolls for keeping all those loose wires neat and organized.

Tip number five: Get yourself in the habit of making a seasonal menu, than make sure your pantry has all the necessary ingredients, this will make your weekly shopping trips so much easier.

Don’t get overwhelmed by the task at hand, organizing your home can be a daunting task; take it one bite at a time, try one of these tips a week and see if it makes a difference in your life. I’m sure by spring your home will be a well organized and won’t need to be cleaned.
