I didn’t know much about area rugs when I started working as an interior designer. Over the years I have learned a thing or two and would like to share them with you. Area rugs 101: What you need to know before buying an area rug. Area rugs are traditionally known for their elaborate patterns, designs and colors, as well as their complex weaving styles. Area rugs are made to serve a decorative function also as an art form.
What You Need To Know Before Buying An Area Rug
Color and style are two of the first choices you should make when considering an area rug for your home. Most styles come in different colors and material. Selecting the right material is very important since the rug needs to be practical for the area it will be used in.
Area Rugs, such as Persian, Indian and Pakistani, are rich in variations of patterns. Hand-knotted Oriental area rugs have become precious works of art, and are handed down from one generation to another.
Decorative area rugs are sturdy and hard-wearing due to the simple fact that each single knot is tied individually. Machine-made rugs are mostly fabricated with synthetic fibers and handmade rugs are mostly made from natural fibers.
Before starting your search for an area rug, consider your space, how it will be used, what style you are going for and your color scheme.
