How To Decorate With White: Tips And Tricks To White Decor

Timeless designs, tranquil atmosphere and comfy feeling can only come with “White”. You heard it right – White is one of those unique colors that have been universally used in various interior works. Be it is a commercial space or residential, white has always played a vital role in enhancing the decor of the space.

White Is Not Boring
Pristine, pure, and chic- white decor makes a dramatic impact that seems always right. The perception has changed, the way people used to think of white as a non color. Today white is beyond that, and has proved umpteenth time from classic to contemporary everything revolves around white.  The color provides an ideal setting whether your taste is rustic, urban, contemporary or classic. It not only looks chic but your space appears to be airier and bigger. It acts as the canvas to showcase your other decor elements, creating an inviting look.

White Can Be Cozy
Carmel Decor White Is A Color 01
If you are looking for a space that relaxes you when you come home slogging hard at the office than white is the shade that will do the justice. You don’t have to spend an arm and a leg to get a stress free life at home, adding natural texture area rugs along with some contemporary art pieces will liven up your room. White is the dependable shade that gives you that comfy and cozy look. Every day you will look forward to spending time in that room as it provides you with that natural serene atmosphere.

White simplifies your space. White decor emphasizes the space instead of the surfaces. Some people try to satisfy the decor of the space with insipid color schemes, it isn’t that it doesn’t work at all, rather why not embrace the space with the color that you will love to see every day.  Accentuating your other accessories with the shades of white will not be difficult, as you will get endless options to match with the element.

Not All  White Match- Make Selection Carefully
Truly said, not all white makes an excellent match since there are lots of different shades in white available. Choose it carefully since a majority of the other decorative selection depends on the primary shade of white you choose. Accessorizing with white might be easy but it does require just as much of careful attention as with any other color scheme.

Texture, Pattern, and Layering With White
White is a color-001
Use texture and pattern to add excitement and warmth to what would otherwise be a boring and cool color pallet.  The use of natural materials like natural fiber area rugs as well as contemporary area rugs really help bring the color white to life.

Is White A Practical Color Choice?
All white palettes might look pristine in an interior decoration magazine, but is it practical?
You probably need to consider every aspects before you choose to decorate your space with white. For instance if you have small kids, and pets or a partner who spills coffee often, how will you make white feasible?  Use a shabby chic style for your interiors, like slip covered sofas and chairs that can be washed. Select area rugs made from natural fibers that are easy to clean, throw pillows and throw blankets can be washed or dry cleaned.

White Can Unify A Space and Soften Architectural Mishaps
The best part about using the white is you can cover up the decor mistakes easily. Warmer lights and layered lightning will make the clutter look cool. Upholster all your mismatched furniture pieces in white and give your room a unified look. It gives a uniformed, contemporary look that you can have in the most affordable ways.

White is the most refreshing shade of all that can evoke cleanliness and purity. It also provides your space a sophisticated and confident look. Before you decide that your space will never do with the shade of white, think about the above mentioned factors for your interiors.

Modern Color Trends For The Home: Brown and Black

Using black and brown together in home decor may seem an odd choice but the clue lies in using the right shades and combining the colors aesthetically. Modern home design sees a lot of use of black and brown to create rich interiors that are warm and cozy and elegant.

Chocolate, cocoa or coffee, which brown do you like?

Brown is a versatile color. It can be gorgeous, warm or dull and when contrasted with the right color can look very vibrant too. So, choose your brown carefully keeping in mind the effect you want to create in your home decor.

Modern color trends involve using brown in a variety of shades. While taupe or red brown can be used for furniture, light tan suits the walls. For dramatic looks, nothing can match espresso or chocolate.
So with all these options of using brown, you know how creative you can get with your home decor.

How to balance brown and black

Use of color trends brown and black
calls for right balance. Too much of any of these colors can make your room look like a cave. You also run the chance of making the room appear small. The best way to use black and brown is mixing it with neutral shades.

White is a good option but it creates a stark contrast which you may not like. Beige or cream are subtle and yet brings out the best of brown and black when paired together.

Cream with its yellow undertone can make your rooms look warm. Use of pillow covers or sofa covers in brown, black and neutral shades will make your home look modern and elegant.

In fact, zebra designs are quite popular nowadays. You can get cushion covers and rugs in brown, black and cream combinations which look very chic. Have a few pieces in these colors and see how your room gets a modern look!

Brown and black works great as anchoring colors. Having a classic rocking chair in black or brown can help you to create a statement in home decor. You can coordinate it with tables and photo frames and rugs in different shades of brown and black.

Remember to use neutral shades on the walls or curtains to create harmony.

Pops of color for a modern look

One of the best characteristics of brown and black is that they can be combined with colors like green and blue in moderate amounts to make rooms look bright. In a room dominated by black and brown, you can place a flower vase in blue or green or even a small aquarium to add a touch of vibrancy. Even a single pillow cover in blue, yellow or green amidst brown-hued ones will make people appreciate your taste.

Use modern color scheme brown and black in different ways and see how contemporary your home looks.

Interior Designer Jamie Drake

We love the bold and colorful work of Interior designer Jamie Drake, named “king of color” by House Beautiful Magazine in 2001.

One of our favorite rooms is this pink bedroom he designed for the Kips Bay Decorative Showhouse in 2007. Creating a room with this level of style and elegance is no small feat; it takes a sharp eye for scale and proportion, a fabulous sense of color and of course great style.

What makes this room so beautiful, and keeps it from appearing as though the walls have been sprayed with Pepto-Bismol? It’s Jamie’s ability to use just the right amount of different shades of pink, his eye for mixing the old and new, and creating depth and layers with the use of texture, and pattern.

Look closely the walls are upholstered in a beautiful pink moiré, the bed is covered in contemporary rich velvet and the drapery fabric is a monochromatic strip.

The antique mirror hanging on a smooth and glossy lacquered wall, and the rich contrast of dark wood, metal and light colors make this bedroom glamorous and so luxurious.
This is no ordinary pink bedroom, it’s certainly not just for a little girl, it’s fun and playful yet smart and sophisticated.

Decorating With Patterns: Chevron

We love the vivid, zigzag pattern of the chevron print; it’s casual and elegant at the same time. The chevron pattern is grown up and sophisticated for the living room, yet fun and easy going in the playroom.

Use the chevron pattern to add a burst of excitement to a room by using it on the floor,

or add interest and color with a chevron pattern rug or a few throw pillows.

Chevron patterns can be used in a variety of colors and scale, the more contrast and larger the scale the more visually stimulating; by using softer colors in a smaller scale the look is more like a texture than pattern.

Since chevron is a geometric pattern it can easily be combined with floral or solids.

We think that the Chevron Pattern is not just a trend it’s here to stay and we just love it! How about you, have you used this pattern in your home?
