I’m not sure if sunburst mirrors can be called a trend; I have been buying and loving these most beautiful mirrors for more than two decades. I remember in my first apartment I purchased two small ones with convex mirrors in the center, I couldn’t have paid much for them, and although they were not large or expensive, it was so luxurious to have them hanging on the wall. As my design business grew as well as my budget I continued to look for, collect and use these iconic and radiant mirrors wherever I could.
The history for the sunburst mirror dates back to Louis XIV who picked the sun as his iconic emblem and was known as “The Sun King”. The resurgence of this decorative mirror happened during the 1940’s Hollywood Regency period. It was the perfect fit for the highly glamorous and over the top style of that era, and auction houses reportedly were receiving high bids for these ornate vintage mirrors. With the introduction of new materials, such as plastic, and artisans these mirrors were forged and gilded and collected by many. Today the sunburst mirror has wide spread appeal and is made from a variety of materials in many styles.
There are very few rooms that can’t look more beautiful and pulled together without a sunburst mirror, whether hung securely over a bed or a mantel.
We love the timeless and classic style of the sunburst mirror. How about you, do you have one in your home?

Mirrors! A Little Self Reflection is Necessary in Any Room
One of the more classic element in any decor is the use of mirrors, no room would be complete without the light and depth that a mirror adds. Mirrors aren’t always clear or totally reflective, in fact they can be mysterious or as reflective as you choose. An antique mirror adds patina and age, a concave mirror distorts the truth, and an old fashioned mercury mirror adds old-world glamor and style.
Dinning rooms and living rooms are great places to add mirrors; according to Feng Shui principles the dining room represents a family’s wealth, and the living room is where the family has gatherings and has parties so the mirror magnifies the festive energy. It’s also the perfect room to play up the luster and sparkle of candle light and mirrors.
Mirrors for centuries have been used to reflect not just so we can see our selves or anything else clearly; but also, mirrors have a reflective quality that adds glamor and sparkle in a seductive, and abstract way.
Whatever your style is I hope you have found some inspiration in the rooms above.

The largest piece of furniture in any bedroom is the bed. So why not take advantage of it and the wall behind it to create a focal point that is not so ordinary, think of it as an opportunity to make a statement.
Use your imagination and think outside the box, look around for the unusual. A good place to start is an estate or garage sale, or a local flee market. Keep your eyes open, and remember you don’t need a large item like a door or screen to create a headboard, how about a collection of smaller items?
Simple construction materials can also be used for creating and decorating the wall behind the bed, maybe you don’t need a “headboard”. Try some simple stock molding to add architectural detail to the wall behind the bed, add texture, color, pattern and design with wall paper installed just on that wall. Lighting the area is also important and is another opportunity to get creative.
You can design a beautiful headboard with some paint and wall decals, like the image above. Love the chandelier!
The headboard above is made from simple construction lumber that has been nailed together and stained. Reclaimed lumber is also a great material to use to make a headboard like this.
When designing your bed take into consideration the other elements in your bedroom like the drapes and wall finish, the architectural features in the room. Does your room have an interesting arch, or tray ceiling or great moldings?
This headboard defiantly makes a statement. The bold geometric fabric, the black and white contrast and grand scale of the headboard pushes the envelope. Although it might not be for everyone it is certainly very creative.
Have you created a dreamy headboard you’d like to share? or have you been looking for a new one, we would love to hear from you.
