Summertime Inspired Color Schemes

I love the summer season; the long lazy days spent at the beach, summer night’s dining outdoor are just a couple of my favorite things to do. During the summer we spend a lot more time outdoors, it’s when the patio and backyard come to life. Now is a great time to rethink the patio and freshen it up with a new color scheme. It doesn’t have to be a major overhaul but a few decorative changes using summer as inspiration.

Bold and Tropical

when the temperature goes up the bold vibrant colors of the tropics become more and more eye-catching. Tropical color scheme is a classic summer color palette, red, orange, yellow, bright greens and blues liven up a drab patio. A tropical color scheme can be traditional or contemporary, combined with neutral colors like white, black, creams and beiges will showcase your style. With a few accessories like an outdoor area rug, throw pillows and a couple of planters you have instantly created a playful tropical outdoor oasis to enjoy all summer long.

Elegant Pastels

enjoying an evening under the stars; pastels are perfect for creating a romantic outdoor living room. Coral and aqua mixed with whites and neutrals is a sophisticated and elegant summertime color scheme. Beautiful throw pillows, soft throws, candle light and fragrant flowers set the mood for a magical relaxing evening. Add accents of driftwood and branched coral to remind you of the ocean.

Nature and Industrial

The best place to draw inspiration from is nature especially during the summer months. Natural materials like sea grass, pebbles, sea shells plus all the many shades of green on the trees. Relaxing in a patio with this color scheme will calm and sooth your soul. Added accents of industrial style accessories and furniture will make your space come to life.

Getting Started On The Garden

Gardening is a great hobby. It is not only a relaxing activity but also makes your home look beautiful. To make your garden a patch of soothing colors, you need a bit of planning. Here are some ideas that will make starting a garden easy.

The initial work

Do you want to plant only flowers or have plans for a small vegetable garden too? Different plants need sunlight in different amounts and you need to assess the exposure your plot gets. It is also a good idea to put up the fences to protect the young saplings from rodents. I am sure you don’t want your roses or chrysanthemums to be trampled by pets.

If you are interested in landscape design, you should mark the areas for flower beds and decide the colors you want your garden to display. Choose colors that go with the outside décor of your home.

With the temperature soaring, your flowering plants would do with some shade. So plant the flowers that do not need much sunlight near the fence or on the eastern side of the house. Remember, in May your garden will require more watering. It is better to go for plants that are drought tolerant.

Landscaping the garden – a few ideas

The landscape design you choose must gel with the outdoor courtyard. In the summers you can go for a lovely color palette thrown in with creepers and bushes. While choosing plants for your garden, apart from colors you should also adopt a mix of early bloomers and late bloomers. This will ensure that your garden is always flowering. Early bloomers like bleeding hearts and peony and roses will add colors to your garden. For late summer, set aside hollyhocks, bee balms, and snakeroot. The choice of plants will make your garden look pleasing to the eyes.

When landscaping, never overdo with flowering plants. Keep enough spaces between flower beds to create a clean look. A landscaped garden needs a lot of weeding, raking and trimming.

If you do not have that much time in your hand, go for simple designs. A few plants arranged in a flower bed along with a nicely trimmed lawn are enough to greet the summer.

I hope these tips on starting a garden will help you to create your own green heaven. Start with small ideas and when they flower well, go for large plans.

Styling The Patio With Outdoor Area Rugs

We love the indoor / outdoor rug, first introduced to the market as a way to style and add warmth to the drab outdoor room, it quickly found its way indoors.

In the past few years the indoor / outdoor rug has become more popular as more beautiful designs are introduced to the market.

We love indoor / outdoor rugs for their vibrant colors that don’t fade, rich texture and great price point.

They are made from durable polypropylene acrylic fibers that withstand high traffic areas, kid’s rooms, and play areas. They are stain resistant, can be cleaned with mild detergent and hosed down in the back yard; perfect for busy homes.

You can find indoor / outdoor rugs, throw pillows, throw blankets and much more at CarmelDecor.com

Create A Cozy Home Decorating With Fall Colors And Textures

Get Cozy This Fall With The Season’s Colors and Textures

Ever since I finished school, Fall has been my favorite time of the year. During my childhood years of course I didn’t want to go back to school, and the shorter days were very depressing. As I grew older, wiser, and more sophisticated I fell in love with Fall. The change in the season, the way light reflects differently, the beautiful fall landscape is so romantic, so rich in color, and the colder climate is welcoming after the summer heat.

Fall 2013 color is Mykonos Blue, and we can see plenty of it in fashion as well as home decor.  Soft, silky velvets in beautiful jewel tones.

Mykonos blue is just the right color to compliment the warm oranges and reds of the changing leaves on the trees. Like these rugs by Surya available at Carmel Decor

We also love the 2013 color of the year Emerald Green, another warm rich sexy hue inspired by natures color palette.

Gold & bronze, warm metals that glitter and gleam, like the sun as it reflects on the changing colors of the trees. These golden colors are the perfect accent to the saturated colors of fall.

Use gold tones in accessories, the little sparkle adds warmth to the fall ambiance.

There are so many different ways to celebrate the Autumn months, and welcome the change with colors and textures all inspired by nature.
Remember shorter days mean longer nights by candle light.

However you celebrate Autumn, I hope you have been inspired.

You can find beautiful mirrors, poufs and ottomans, decorative pillows,
wall decor, area rugs and home accents  to help you bring some self reflection into your home at Carmel Decor.
