After a hard day of work, let’s face it, with all the hectic lives we have, at the end of the day we need to retire in a sanctuary called home. Returning to a restful, calming, and cozy den, living room, bedroom, or an outside patio, would be so well-deserved. Make Your home a sanctuary a luxury that can be designed and laid out easily.
Last weekend at the flea market I found the most beautiful vintage kilim. It was in disrepair from neglect and time, but fortunately the colors were still vibrant and exciting. I had to have it, so with a little haggling I was able to buy it at a good price; good enough so I would not worry if my plans for it did not pan out as well as I’m hoping. First order of business was to figure out what I was going to do with it? There are so many options so many alternative uses for area rugs.

It’s almost August and the temperature is going up. We love to spend the last month of summer by the beach if only for a few days in a chic, comfortable, beach cottage; just like this one from the pages of House Beautiful.
I particularly love this look; it’s not the cottage at the beach I remember. It’s warm and inviting traditional yet contemporary. The industrial style lighting is so cool, the mix and matched furniture has a vintage vibe, and the room over all is modern and fresh. As you know cottages are small and the rooms have to be multifunctional, especially when the fog rolls in and everyone gathers inside. This dining room just off the kitchen is perfect for playing games and having a conversation with a few friends as you lounge on the comfy inviting window seat.

The sand, sea and the surf always remind us of happy times. The time spent on a beach on long vacations always makes us long for more of the sunshine and the sea. While it may always not be possible to go for long vacations, you can always invite the sea to your home. Here are a few summertime home decor ideas inspired by the sea.
Have a “sea” effect in your home
The first thing that comes to our mind when we think of sea is the color blue. Blue in its various shades especially the nautical blue can be used in home decor. Try to create a summertime color scheme with colors like grays and sandy beiges for your entire house. Include grassy greens and deep corals as accent colors in your home.
Adopt coastal living ideas in your house. Use bar stools and breakfast bars for a casual living and also to have a touch of holidays in your daily life.
Blue and white area rugs in natural fibers like sisal or sea grass will make your home look cool. You can also get nautical inspired area rugs that are bright and instantly give a vibrant touch to home decor.
When you think of nautical home decor, you have to incorporate shells and other mementos that we collect from beaches in the home. Get picture frames made out of shells of various shapes. You can use the idea as a DIY project for your kids who will be happy to chip in their own ideas.
Wallpapers with sea inspired images are also a great way to enjoy the summer. They will make your home look breezy and remind you of the lovely time you spent on the beaches.
Use a table to showcase the seashells you have been collecting through the years. You can even have sand and pebble candle holders. Place them in the bedroom or in the dining area and you can have a nice “sea” feeling in your home.
You want everything special for your little angel. Her rooms should be comfy enough for her to play and relax and reflect her personality and style also. Decorating kids’ spaces is not easy keeping in mind their needs. However, area rugs can brighten up rooms easily and make them cozy too. Area rugs for girl’s bedrooms should be chosen with care and keeping these tips in mind will help you to get the perfect one.
Why do you want a rug for your baby girl’s room?
There can be various reasons to have rugs in the girl’s bedrooms. You may want to cover the entire floor and give it a makeover or use a colorful rug as a focal point. You may also want to define kid’s spaces with area rugs. Depending on your purpose you have to get the right rug.
Infants and toddlers – get rugs in multiple colors
For your toddler girl, get something soft and cozy so that her bare feet get a warm touch first thing in the morning. Moreover, a comfy rug will allow her to sit and play with all her toys.
Rugs made of silk, wool or any other natural fiber will suit an infant’s room. Make sure the rug complements the color of the room. So, if the dominant color of the room is white or beige, go for colorful rugs in geometric shapes and designs. You can have fun rugs with your baby’s favorite cartoon characters too
Nowadays, you will find lots of rugs that are suitable for a girl’s nursery. Available in designs with butterflies and flowers and in pretty colors, they can accentuate any home décor and give it a soft touch.
Tweens rooms – get sturdy rugs
If your girl is in her tweens, you know she would want to decorate her room according to her taste. Moreover, with all her friends coming over for group studies and sleepovers and drama rehearsals, the rugs you place in her room need to be beautiful as well as durable.
So, rugs in silk, wool or nylon will perfectly fit your bill. Go for colors that will hide stains and may not need frequent washing. Your girl may have outgrown cartoons and in that case you may choose rugs in bright shades and patterns to suit her mood and style.
Teenage girl’s room – get rugs that suit her attitude
Your teenage girl would definitely have a say in the home décor. She would like her room to look cool. Always ask for her ideas when buying rugs for her room. She may like to have contemporary rugs in trendy designs for her room.
Whether it is the nursery or the room of a modern teenage girl, area rugs can be an interesting addition to the home décor and create statements that your girl would love to show to the entire world.

Gardening is a great hobby. It is not only a relaxing activity but also makes your home look beautiful. To make your garden a patch of soothing colors, you need a bit of planning. Here are some ideas that will make starting a garden easy.
The initial work
Do you want to plant only flowers or have plans for a small vegetable garden too? Different plants need sunlight in different amounts and you need to assess the exposure your plot gets. It is also a good idea to put up the fences to protect the young saplings from rodents. I am sure you don’t want your roses or chrysanthemums to be trampled by pets.
If you are interested in landscape design, you should mark the areas for flower beds and decide the colors you want your garden to display. Choose colors that go with the outside décor of your home.
With the temperature soaring, your flowering plants would do with some shade. So plant the flowers that do not need much sunlight near the fence or on the eastern side of the house. Remember, in May your garden will require more watering. It is better to go for plants that are drought tolerant.
Landscaping the garden – a few ideas
The landscape design you choose must gel with the outdoor courtyard. In the summers you can go for a lovely color palette thrown in with creepers and bushes. While choosing plants for your garden, apart from colors you should also adopt a mix of early bloomers and late bloomers. This will ensure that your garden is always flowering. Early bloomers like bleeding hearts and peony and roses will add colors to your garden. For late summer, set aside hollyhocks, bee balms, and snakeroot. The choice of plants will make your garden look pleasing to the eyes.
When landscaping, never overdo with flowering plants. Keep enough spaces between flower beds to create a clean look. A landscaped garden needs a lot of weeding, raking and trimming.
If you do not have that much time in your hand, go for simple designs. A few plants arranged in a flower bed along with a nicely trimmed lawn are enough to greet the summer.
I hope these tips on starting a garden will help you to create your own green heaven. Start with small ideas and when they flower well, go for large plans.
